How it works
A panel on top of standard Linux services
Management Server and Service Nodes
The interface runs on the Management Server. Each Service Node runs the ISPConfig server component, which picks up changes from the Management Server's database and writes the configuration of its local services.
Plain configuration files
ISPConfig writes vhosts, Postfix maps, zone files and PHP-FPM pools from templates. Custom templates in conf-custom survive updates, and the server remains a regular Debian, Ubuntu or RHEL system.
Extensible
Plugins react to every change in the panel. The remote API connects shops and billing systems, and since 3.3 extensions install directly from the extension repository.
Current release
ISPConfig 3.3
ISPConfig 3.3 added load and traffic graphs, PostgreSQL databases for websites, ECC certificates from Let's Encrypt, an extension installer and automatic nightly backups of the panel configuration. Release 3.3.1 added Debian 13 and RHEL 10 based distributions, 3.3.2 added Ubuntu 26.04.
System requirements
Supported distributions
| Debian | 11 – 13 | Recommended |
| Ubuntu LTS | 22.04 – 26.04 | Recommended |
| AlmaLinux | 8 – 10 | |
